For the first time, a French court has ordered that a Rwandan be put on trial in France over the 1994 Genocide against the Tutsi in Rwanda. A former army captain, Pascal Simbikangwa, was arrested on the French island of Mayotte back in 2008. He is now facing charges of complicity to commit genocide and crimes against humanity. Simbikangwa was a former intelligence officer under the genocidal regime and was arrested under international warrant for his alleged involvement in the Genocide that killed more than a million people over three months.
